Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation in unstable Thoracolumbar Fractures and Fracture-Dislocations

Abstract
There have been progressive increase in use of internal fixator for treatment of unstable fractures and fracture-dislocations of thoracolumbar spine that offers several advantages such as more rigid fixation and early mobilization of patient.
This is a retrospective clinical and roentgenographic study to evaluate the effectiveness of Contrel-Dubousset instrumentation as a internal fixation device of spine ad to analyze the causes of some complications. We analyzed 15 cases of
thoracolumbar
spine fracture and fracture dislocations associated with instability which was fixed with Cotrel-Dubousset instrument.
@ES Average follow up period was 6 months.
1. Of 15 cases, male were 11 cases, female were 4 cases, and average age of the patients was 42 years.
2. The sites of injuries were L1, L2 in 12 cases(80%) burst fracture was most common injury type.
3. In burst fractures, postoperative relative excellent reduction states were observed but the height of vertebral body eas often collapsed slightly. during follow up period.
4. 4. Metallic failure was developed in con case.
5. Cotrel-Dubousset instrument has many advantages such as anatomical reduction, rigid fixation and good maintenance for-treatment of thoracolumbar spine fracture and fracture dislocation.
